This book pays for itself with the bone-deep amusement you get from the first two chapters alone! Picture gorgeous, hunky, God’s gift, super-nice ‘charming’ Chicago Stars quarterback Dean Robillard in his spiffy sports car (remember him from Match Me If You Can?). Anyway, he’s driving to his new East Tennessee farmhouse, and he sees… a woman in an honest-to-God beaver suit, without the head, needing a ride. Bored, he pulls over to investigate, and things get cracking from that second on.
Blue Bailey’s upset because her ex has not only ripped her off, he’s shafted her for a bimbo, and she gets stuck into the ex and the bimbo, beaver suit, flapping tail, paws and all. Much to Dean’s delight. He even calls her ‘Beav’ in his mind, rooting for her! Too funny! And don’t even get me started on the subliminal message about the beaver suit that other people have laughed over. It’s hysterical enough as it is. Anyway, the destitute, wardrobe-challenged Blue and the impossibly gorgeous Dean end up at his farmhouse. Which is being renovated by his ‘housekeeper’, only she’s not his housekeeper, she’s his… nah, let you read it to find out. The witty wisecracking does not let up the whole way through, which gives absolutely the most delicious funny fabulous eye-rolling reader pleasure.
Naturally, this is not all about Dean and Blue and, er, the ‘housekeeper’. Some very private personal surprise characters get yanked into the story, plus – oh, give or take the whole darn town – and it’s so great we can’t stop raving. And typical SEP makes us laugh, then makes us cry with her super-honest, bare-naked, soul-searching emotions. |
