Novelist Quinn Gallagher reluctantly comes to Castlelough, Ireland, as the screenwriter for a movie based on one of his books, which is being filmed on location. The product of a violent marriage and a witness to his mother's death as a child, Quinn is a remote, cynical man with no interest in stirring up his past or his Irish roots. But he hadn't counted on the Joyce family, a close-knit clan whose love and loyalty is unlike anything Quinn has ever experienced.
