Oh.My.Gosh. What a debut for Australian Kylie Chan. The first of the Darl Heavens trilogy White Tiger is an exhilarating read. Filled with gods, magic and martial arts, this modern day adventure set in the mystical surroundings of China had us hooked from the first page. After reading it about eight times in two days we can’t think of enough fabulous things to say about it!! Emma Donahoe has just started her new job as nanny to Simone, the daughter of John Chen, a very rich Hong Kong businessman. She understands that Simone may be a target for kidnappers but she does not expect to be drawn into a world of martial arts, magic and extreme danger, where both gods and demons can exist in the mortal domain.
When John and his American bodyguard, Leo, teach Emma their particular style of martial arts, they begin to realise that Emma herself is more than she seems. This blurb by no means does justice to the surprise that is this book. We can wax superlative but you have to read it to understand. The attraction and tension between John and Emma positively sizzles. The fact that they cannot touch only enhances their passion and when they do finally kiss its incendiary. You’ll fall in love with five year old Simone, a child far wiser than her years, Leo the bodyguard is a hoot, Jade and Gold, gods in their own right are larger than life (really!) and Bai Hu, a shapeshifter god is a modern day sleaze you can not help but love. And Emma – we want to be just like her when we grow up! A not to be missed read.
