As much as
we loved the 1st installment
we have to say that this is even better.
We’re always enthralled my smart, aristocratic heroines who fly in the
face of society and “shock” actually seek an education. Lady Emily has returned from Greece in time for the London season, which this year has the added
excitement of the appearance of Charles Berry who claims to be the true heir to
the French throne. This potential
monarch isn’t content with the adulation of the masses and tries to make Emily
his latest mistress, and with her refusal comes an avalanche of vicious rumours
designed to ruin her reputation. When
this leads to a spate of burglaries which culminate in murder, Emily has to
dust off her investigation skills and find out the identity of the murderer,
the thief and the rumour mongerer. It’s
a hard life for a 19th century heroine but Emily’s well up to the
job in her usual indomitable fashion, ably aided by the ever debonair Colin and
irrepressible Cecile Du Lac. Charming
and addictive.
