You know the drill. Disgusting villains, bullets zinging around, viewings at Stiva’s, Kloughn getting drunk as his wedding to Stephanie’s sister looms, the outrageous Grandma Mazur, family meals at the Plums in all their glorious chaos, Bob the dog who eats – stuff – then either pukes or poos enough disgusting landfill to provide fertilizer for a third world country, etc, etc. But wait, there’s more! By page five you’ll be laughing at Lula, who blithely announces after Ranger walks out of the office: I think I wet my pants. A little further on, her reference to ‘needing fries’ (i.e. a s***load of fries) will have you wetting your pants. You might not think it possible, but Janet Evanovich has extended herself brilliantly in her efforts to annihilate Stephanie’s cars. I didn’t know there was that many ways to kill a car! Theoretically, Stephanie’s decided to toss in the towel as a bounty hunter. So she goes to work for Ranger instead. Wow, doesn’t that ring Joe Morelli’s bells! So much so, he powers up the lust factor, big-time, and even says the ‘L’ word to Stephanie. Ooh. Say no more. |
