Don’t know about you, but we’ve been hanging out for Noah’s story since Heartbreaker, in – gosh – 2000! He was pretty amazing in Mercy (2001), and he’s dipped in and out of Garwood’s Buchanan-Renard series ever since. And we can’t forget about Jordan, Nick Buchanan’s computer whiz sister. But Noah, everyone, NOAH! Typical Noah, he challenges Jordan, says that her life’s too boring and predictable. So she even surprises herself when she takes off to the little hot-baked town of Serenity, Texas (ha! what a name, considering…) to visit a history professor who’s obsessed with an ancient feud between the Buchanan’s and the McKenna’s in auld Scotland. We’re talking centuries old feud, and the professor is rather loopy about the whole thing. Jordan’s a bit edgy, not quite sure she should be there, but she’s determined to move out of her comfort zone and do/learn new things. Next thing you know, ta-da! Jordan’s got a dead body in her boot, the whole town’s agog, the comfort zone’s shot to hell. In come the FBI to the rescue (Nick and Noah) Not terribly helpful, because, oops, body #2 turns up on Noah’s watch, and so on. I hate to say this, but who cares about the dead bodies. Just get Jordan and Noah into bed. She did! Finally! Oh, and the case is solved. If you haven’t read the previous books, you can still read this book standalone but if you haven’t met the Buchanan’s you’re in for book sensory overload – Heartbreaker, Mercy, Killjoy, Slow Burn and Murder List – fabulous romantic suspense! |
