Have mercy indeed. Theo Buchanan, Nick Buchanan’s incredible workaholic, widowed lawyer brother, is here. And he runs against the scum of this earth, so he reluctantly gets to wear a gun and do he-man stuff very, very effectively. For the anxious fans, Noah (FBI) makes another appearance in this book, thankyou Julie. All this testosterone is to die for! Also, be still our palpitating hearts, there’s another dark and dangerous hero who surfaces in this book: Jean Paul, the heroine’s totally dangerous, lethal, loner brother. We want his story, too! Watching him and Theo have their little pissing contests and power plays is totally fascinating. Their meeting is a doozie. Oh, and the heroine? Michelle Renard, a gifted surgeon from the deep south. There’s all that creepy swamp with alligators roaring at night, and heat, and desperate people, for atmosphere. The villains are identified right from the start, although there’s some major surprises along the way. Motivated by greed (of course), they slide from simply making millions into making murder. And once they’ve started killing, it’s necessary to keep killing. For a chilling story of evil, and a good heart-thumping romance, this book is simply the best. |
