Fun from beginning to end with Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, screwing up as usual. Here’s something different from previous books: not one car gets blown up. This time, for a novel approach, Ranger’s goons guard Stephanie from a sick serial killer. (Yes, Ranger’s back and just as big and bad as before.) One by one, disasters occur to these steriodasauruses (Stephanie’s word, not ours). The absolute best one occurs when Stephanie’s sister Valerie is in labour. You’ll laugh so hard, you’ll cry! And Lula’s on a diet. Lula, pursuing the body of a supermodel, is disastrous. There is one spectacular scene with Lula right at the end of the book that’s so comic even Ranger smiles. One of his goons says: ‘You have to see this.’ (hysterical description of Lula here as they all go to look) Ranger’s face creased into a smile. ‘I love my job,’ he said. And Joe Morelli’s still sticking close and giving Stephanie so many orgasms she’s limp. Read it and weep… And, we haven’t even told you about the Las Vegas thong/Tom Jones story, or the dogs and Lula, or Stephanie having maternal urges! |
