My zombie raising equipment was in a gray Nike gym bag. Some animators have elaborate cases. I’ve even seen one who had a little suitcase that turned into a table like something that might be used by a magician or a street vendor. Me, I made sure everything was packed tight so nothing got broken or scratched up, but other than that I didn’t see the point to being fancier than you needed to be. If people wanted a show they could go down to the Circus of the Damned and watch zombies crawl from the grave with actors pretending to be terrified of them. As for me, I wasn’t an entertainer, I was an animator, and this was work.

Starting with Guilty Pleasures, so named for the vampire strip club of the same title, you’ll read with unabashed semi-terror and pounding heart. The books are like a combination of Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Stephanie Plum (of One For The Money fame) meets The X-Files. The stories feature Anita Blake, a woman known to the vampire population as The Executioner. She discovers the hard way (read it and find out) she has an affinity with the dead. Road-kill takes on a whole new significance! Anita is terrific. Funny, intelligent, feisty and powerful, the books follow her relationships with her two lovers, and a plethora of unique characters. So a chronological read is a must. Kind of like the J. D. Robb books follow Eve Dallas and her relationship with Roarke. Only Anita’s two major relationships are with – well – men a tad more unusual.
Let’s just say that one, Jean-Claude, is the Master Vampire of the City. That immediately poses a huge personal conflict of interest for Anita, The Executioner. The other is Richard, a man who turns furry once a month. Yes, folks, he’s a werewolf. Not often your lover starts to change into a werewolf in the middle of things… Crumbs. Both men (should I call them men?) are also jealous of the other, and their places in Anita’s affections. Certainly makes for an arresting trio. Then there’s Micah, the wereleopard shapeshifter… Read them and find out…
