Jennifer Crusie, Bob Mayer |

Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer apparently met at a writer’s seminar in Maui, and clicked. He said: In my books people have sex and die. She said: In my books, people have sex and live happily ever after. Obviously, they decided this was enough to create a wonderful writing partnership! Bob writes books where the people are outside. Jennifer writes books where the people are inside, talking. Bob gets Jennifer’s characters outside, and into a fair bit of action (even with guns). And there’s sex, where the people don’t die. The setting’s a film set, where stunts filmed over a final four days will wrap up this particular film. The writer’s in a huff because the stunts don’t match her script, the stunt-man has some other secret agenda up his sleeve, there’s a mole on site, and a sniper and a one-eyed alligator (Moot) in the swamp right next to the set. The hassled director, Lucy, is falling for Green Beret J T Wilder, who’s working as a stunt double. Wilder’s starting to wonder why everyone thinks nothing’s wrong with the whole clusterf*** scenario as these final filming days unravel. Actually, the ‘f’ word is mentioned quite a lot, so at least you’ve been warned. The Wonder Woman references here are enough to make you want some Wonder Wear for yourself. It works better than boob jobs, Wilder assures Lucy, and he should know. This is a smart, mouthy, fun book, full of adventure, romance, and a very cute kid called Pepper. It all starts with an illegal shipment of jade. Enjoy! |
