This old favourite has never disappointed on its numerous re-reads. In fact it’s now become a point of honour to own every reprint, and no, there’s no such thing as overly obsessive when it comes to Jennifer Crusie. We’re just making sure that we don’t wake up one wet, miserable night looking for some laughs and find that all our Crusie’s have fallen apart from overuse.
I mean what’s not to love? Lucy is a sweet school teacher who had the misfortune to catch her faithless husband Bradley doing the horizontal mambo. To add insult to injury he’s now just stood her up at the divorce courts, though I suppose this is karma’s payback for marrying a man for a house. Her sister keeps nagging her to live a little, but she definitely didn’t foresee Lucy turning her hair green, foiling and beating up a potential mugger who just happened to be a cop and adopting yet another stray mutt with issues, all in the space of a day. Then with her missing ex-husband, the maniac who’s trying to kill her, and the commitment-phobe cop who’s just moved in with her (for her protection of course), it’s pretty obvious that Lucy’s going to give in to her wild side, even if it kills her. Filled with Crusie’s ubiquitous zany characters this is a laugh riot from first to last page. REISSUE |
