When Cassandra Deville learns of the arrival of an English ship, she fears that her worst nightmare is about to come true. Though her artist father has never fully explained the reason for her family's flight from France during the Reign of Terror, she suspects that something sinister is involved and that the Englishman is her father's enemy. Cassandra, known to the island people as Kanoa, loves her father and dreams of breeding her stallion, Kapu, in order to build a stable of prized horses.
